EMDR therapy in Baltimore, MD is revolutionary.
Are you a survivor of trauma, violence, or abuse? Have you gone through something awful? Do you continue to relive it over and over again through flashbacks, intrusive memories, or nightmares? Has what happened to you affected the way you think and feel?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, you might be experiencing the after-effects of trauma, or posttraumatic stress. What happened to you may have left you feeling damaged or broken. You may have had periods of normalcy, only to be reminded of the past. Left untreated, posttraumatic stress can diminish your quality of life and shake your sense of joy, peace, and safety.
But it doesn’t have to be that way.
My name is Laureen DiMattia, and I am here for you.
I founded Seasons of Strength to help survivors of trauma just like you. I’m proud to offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, or EMDR to help you heal from your past.
What is EMDR?
EMDR is a unique form of therapy designed to help you process and move forward from painful memories. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR works with both your mind and body to reprocess trauma in a way that feels less overwhelming.
During an EMDR session, I’ll guide you through recalling a traumatic memory while you focus on a moving object. This movement triggers something called bilateral stimulation which helps your brain reprocess memories by engaging both sides of the brain. One of the key parts of EMDR is making sure you feel supported throughout the process. As your therapist, I’ll help you navigate difficult emotions so you don’t feel stuck or overwhelmed. EMDR is designed to work directly with trauma, helping you find relief and a sense of resolution faster than traditional methods.
EMDR addresses “big T” Trauma, including:
- Military combat experience
- Being the victim of violence
- Death of a loved one or a pet
- Childhood abuse or neglect
- Near-death experiences
- Car accidents
- Witnessing or experiencing domestic abuse
- Sexual abuse, assault, or rape
Further, EMDR is a powerful tool for working through “little t” traumas, such as:
- Childhood bullying
- Public humiliation
- Divorce or breaking up with a partner
- Losing a job
- Sexism or racism
- Constant criticism from authority figures
- Being repeatedly ignored or dismissed
How can EMDR therapy in Baltimore help with my trauma?
Common signs of unprocessed trauma include:
When these symptoms show up, we call it PTSD. Your mind responds this way because it’s trying to protect you—it wants to make sure you don’t go through that kind of pain again. But in doing so, it holds onto the trauma instead of fully processing it. That’s why EMDR works so well for PTSD. It gives you the space to revisit those painful memories in a way that feels safe, helping your brain finally make sense of them and let them go.
As you work through the emotions and the weight of the past starts to feel lighter, your body and mind begin to heal. You start to loosen the grip of old defenses, reconnect with yourself and the people around you, and find relief. Over time, you learn to move forward in a way that is beyond just getting by. You’ll move forward with renewed joy, purpose, and a stronger sense of who you are.
Seasons of Strength is proud to offer EMDR therapy in Baltimore, MD, to survivors of trauma because everyone deserves a chance at wellness.
