Therapy for depression can be a godsend.
Are you lonely, stuck, or hopeless? Do you have difficulty sleeping or eating well? Have you lost interest or purpose in life? Are you struggling to find enough concentration, energy, or motivation to get through your day?
If so, you might be experiencing depression – and you are not the only one.
In fact, research has found that many adults will experience depression at some point in life, and more than 1 in 14 meet criteria for a depressive disorder.
Depression is one of the most common mental health issues; and fortunately, it’s also very treatable.
My name is Laureen DiMattia, and I founded Seasons of Strength to help people just like you overcome depression.
As a professional therapist, I have helped so many people get their lives back on track because no one should have to struggle alone. If you are interested and ready to sign up for therapy, contact me today. To learn more about depression and how therapy can help, read on!
What is depression?
Depression isn’t just “feeling sad” or “down.”
Rather, depression is a health condition that affects the whole person and those around them. You can recognize the symptoms of depression by watching for warning signs, such as:
*Severe depression can lead to thoughts of suicide and self-harm.
If you or a loved one are experiencing thoughts of suicide or self-harm, seek help immediately by calling 911, and contact me as soon as possible to get treatment.
Many people experience depression after a major loss, such as the death of a loved one or losing one’s job. Some become depressed as a result of chronic stress, such as overworking or being burned out. And some experience depression “out of the blue,” where the symptoms emerge without a clear cause (in those cases, consider consulting with a physician as well to identify any medical causes of depression). Some people are more at risk for developing depressive symptoms than others, especially those who lack adequate social and emotional support.
Other common causes of depression might include:
- Significant life changes (e.g., going to college, changing careers, getting married)
- Financial stress or unemployment
- Experiencing an injury or serious medical condition
- Having a baby (postpartum and perinatal depression)
- Breaking up with a partner
- Changes in diet or medication
No matter what caused the depression, professional help is warranted. Seasons of Strength is proud to offer psychotherapy as the first line of treatment for depression because everyone deserves support during hardship. No matter how difficult things might seem there is hope.
How can therapy treat depression?
Depression tends to make itself worse over time.
As you feel less energized and motivated you might withdraw from others, which leads to increased loneliness and disconnection. As you become more self-critical and negative, you might lose your drive for success. Much like a bad habit, the cycle of depression reinforces itself and becomes stronger over time.
No matter how bad things might seem, you have the power to break free from depression – and therapy can help you do just that.
You can learn to think differently and find balance. You can discover new sources of energy and motivation. You can break unhealthy habits once and for all. You can regain your sense of purpose.
We can make it happen, together.
