What is stress?
Stress is simply the body’s way of adjusting to change.
We feel stressed when we start that new job. We feel stressed when we first move in with a roommate or a romantic partner. We even feel stressed when smaller changes affect our daily routines, such as daylight savings or staring a new workout program. Stress is a normal part of life, but too much of anything can be a bad thing.
Stressors tend to weigh on us, much like a backpack filled with stones. As life adds responsibilities and other stressful demands to our backpack, we can easily become overwhelmed. Some of the most common indicators of this might include:
Being overwhelmed with stress happens to everyone from time to time. Sometimes it happens all at once, where stress is piled up too quickly. Other times, stressors are slowly added until we collapse under the strain.
If you or a loved one have become overwhelmed by stress, seek professional help.
You deserve to live well and have joy, and therapy can help make that happen. Seasons of Strength is proud to offer therapy for people just like you who want to find freedom from stress.
How can stress therapy in Washington, DC, help with my stress?
If you feel you are too overloaded or too busy to get help, that’s a good sign that you could use therapy for your stress.
Therapy gives you a chance to set your backpack aside, unload some of the stress, and learn to keep things light.
Set it Aside. You might not even realize how much you are carrying. Therapists provide a safe, confidential space for you to slow down, share your burdens, and feel heard and understood, thus giving you a chance to recover.
Unload. You don’t have to carry your stress alone. Sharing your stressors with another gives you a chance to organize your thoughts, problem solve ways of destressing, and discover new personal insights.
Keep it Light. Many of us tend to take on too much, prioritize the needs of others, and attempt to control the uncontrollable, and therapy can help you do things differently. You can learn to set healthy boundaries, practice effective self-care, and focus on what matters most.
If you or a loved one are overloaded or overwhelmed with stress, don’t wait. Get the help that you deserve and contact me today.
What does stress therapy in Washington, DC, look like with Laureen DiMattia?
We all know what it’s like to carry too much stress – including me. No matter how helpless you might feel, I know that therapy can make things better. All it takes is the courage and willingness to get started.
Each session is completely confidential and specifically designed to meet your goals. Our first meeting is all about helping us get to know each other. I’ll ask lots of questions about your story to get a sense of what might be contributing to the problem, and you get the chance to learn more about how I work and what to expect from treatment.
My therapy incorporates techniques from the best available treatment modalities, such as psychodynamic, CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy). As a firm believer in incorporating physical wellness into stress management, I’m especially good at helping people develop sustainable, healthy lifestyle habits.
